Meet Megan Cain: Our Creative Force

Megan Cain, creative, shop owner, and author, is the visionary behind The ZEN Succulent. In 2012, she birthed the concept of modern terrariums and plant craft. With passion, dedication, and a creative spirit, she brought her dream to life.

Our Story of Growth

In 2016, Megan realized her dream even further when she unveiled The ZEN Succulent neighborhood plant and gift shop in the heart of downtown Durham. Here, her plant designs found their home alongside an assortment of indoor greenery and handcrafted gifts from emerging makers. This store was destined to be special.

Since opening our doors, we've been fortunate to have our story shared far and wide. We've had the privilege of gracing the pages of Southern Living Magazine, Our State Magazine, Design Milk, Etsy, and countless other esteemed publications and blogs. Our journey has also taken us to exciting collaborations with Madewell, West Elm, Anthropologie, and on-air appearances for HGTV and Good Morning America. In 2021, Architectural Digest recognized us as one of the "16 Best Plant Shops Across the U.S." Our growth has been phenomenal, and we're deeply grateful for every step of the journey.

Megan's creative wellspring draws from her deep affection for vibrant colors and the breathtaking landscapes of Durham, North Carolina, the place she proudly calls home. Together with her husband, Andrew, and their sons, Hudson and Thomas, Megan finds inspiration in the simple joys of life and the natural wonders that surround her.

Sharing Our Green Wisdom

We're not just about plants; we're about nurturing a community of plant enthusiasts. Megan's wisdom and love for indoor greenery have taken the form of her book, "Modern Terrarium Studio," published by Penguin Random House. She extends her expertise through engaging plant workshops throughout the East Coast.
