Best Plants for your Dorm Room
Somehow…it’s already AUGUST and you know what that means! Whether you’re still a student yourself or a parent to one (or both!) it’s time for all things BACK TO SCHOOL!
As most of us know, dorm rooms are typically…not awesome. They’re small, and usually feature just one window that may or may not provide some nice natural light. Not to mention, there’s usually two college-aged kids inside that are busy studying and socializing…with very little free time to focus on taking care of anything besides themselves.
Luckily for any students in your life though, there are plenty of plants that can THRIVE in a dorm room environment. Here are a few of our top picks:
SUCCULENTS
While succulents do need bright light (perfect to spruce up the collegiate windowsill) they need very little water/general attention otherwise.
Snake Plant
Virtually indestructible, the Snake Plant doesn’t need much light or water, so if you’re a busy college student with a window covered by trees…you’re in luck!
Air Plants
The major deterrent of plants in dorm rooms? SPACE! That’s where air plants come into play…they’re super small, super cute, and can sit perched right on your desk!
Pothos
Like the Snake Plant, Pothos (in this case, the “golden” variety) are seriously maintenance. They only need to be watered once the soil is pretty much completely dry, and can thrive in varying light conditions. The trailing leaves can also spruce up a barren dorm room!
