Tips for Decorating with Plants

Plants have so many uses, but one of our favorites is simply that they make any room featuring them just look BETTER! Of course we love knowing that they clean the air and have even been proven to reduce stress…but the purely aesthetic magic of decorating with plants is often our focus.

Y’all are often asking us about decorating tips with plants, so we wanted to share a few of our favorites.

Tips for Decorating with Plants

Put Plants on the Walls, or Hang Them

This tip is especially handy for those of us living in tight spaces. Lacking in square footage doesn’t have to mean lacking in plants! Cool hanging planters have gotten a lot more attention recently (we love these from our friend @theplondering), and there’s plenty of different kinds to choose from. We also like simple floating shelves that won’t take up any valuable floor space (as a bonus, it keeps them away from pets!).

Cluster Plants Together to Create a Show Stopping Effect

While of course we love having plants spread throughout our home, grouping them all together can create a really special feeling. Not only will the quality of the air be more clean in this centralized area, but it can almost feel like an art installation! Who remembers the living wall we did for the 2016 HGTV Smart Home?

Get Expressive with your Planters

While the majority of (especially year round) plants are green, green, and more green, unique planters can make them feel more interesting and add personality to otherwise similar looking foliage.

Bring in Plants that Don’t Need Care, and Last Forever

OK, this one is a bit of a cheat, but we just swoon over plant inspired wall paper! This is a phenomenal way to add greenery into your home when you either can’t afford living plants, or are worried about the pets in your home. Even the imagery of leaves can make a room feel more alive. Trust us!

We hope these tips for decorating with plants will inspire your next room makeover. Be sure to tag us on IG @thezensucculent to share how you’re enlivening your spaces!
